Marriage & Civil Union Licenses
Licenses for marriages and civil unions are obtained in the office of the Registrar of Vital Statistics located in the Business Office. Applications can be made in the municipality in which either party resides and is valid in any municipality in the State of New Jersey. If neither party is a resident of the State, the applicants shall make application in which the ceremony is to be performed and is valid only in that municipality.
Applicants must call for an appointment: (732) 657-4141. Applicants will be required to produce identification, which should include a certified copy of a birth certificate and driver’s license. A witness over the age of eighteen must accompany applicants at the time of application.
Applicants who have been previously married or have previously entered in civil unions are required to produce evidence of dissolution, i.e. divorce papers, or death certificates, if applicable.
There is a seventy-two hour waiting period before the issuance of the marriage or civil union license after application is made.
The fee for the license is $28.00. After the ceremony, certified copies can be obtained for $25 for the first copy and $5 for each additional copy.
