5. Downtown Lakehurst
Still the only downtown in the area, it remains a vital business center to area residents. Different types of construction can be seen and many speciality items purchased. A nice place to walk, shop, and eat. The Borough Hall was built in 1913 by a local builder as the town hall for Manchester Township. Lakehurst, although in existence since Revolutionary times, became a borough in 1921. A pre-Civil War building, the Red Men's Hall, now the Fleet Reserve Association building, is at the far end of the downtown. The Lakehurst Post Office is downtown as well. The downtown is known for its Christmas display and tree-lined streets.
